Barden David "Bill" Hooks
LAURINBURG -- Lt. Col. Barden David "Bill" Hooks (U.S. Air Force, Ret.) of Scotia Village Retirement Community in Laurinburg, N.C. passed away Dec. 24, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at Scotia Village on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at 11 a.m.
A private family burial will follow. Cremation and services provided by McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Blue Purser Hooks; sons, David Gray Hooks (Patty) of Stafford, Va.; James Mason Hooks of Gibson, N.C.; daughters, Martha Lynn Hall (Charles), New Bern, N.C.; Ruth Blue Lee (John), Gibson, N.C.; 9 grandchildren, Jean Fortune (Chris), Lynn Hinson (Tommy), James R. Reedy III (Jennifer), Adam Tharrington, Mary Blue Tharrington, Rebecca Hooks, Aubri Hooks, Robert Hooks and Justin Presson; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his nephews: Robert "Bob" Smith (Ann) of Windsor, Va., and Al Rowe Gaskill (Golda) of Selma, N.C.
Bill was born in Kenly, N.C., to Inez Blalock and Albert Grey Hooks on Jan. 6, 1919.
He was predeceased by his parents, and four sisters: Allie Hooks, Selma Grey Hooks, Thelma Clyde Smith, and Mary Lee Gaskill.
After graduating from Oak Ridge Military Academy and Wake Forest College, he worked in Washington, D.C. until he joined the Army Air Corps. By the time he retired, the Army Air Corps had become the U.S. Air Force.
Returning from service, he served as business manager of Kings Business College in Raleigh, N.C., and retired from Aeroglide Corp. as chief accountant and personnel manager in 1981.
In Raleigh, N.C., he was a member of First Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He served as one of the first presidents of the Triangle Trade Club.
Retiring to Laurinburg, N.C., he was a member of First Baptist Church, the Couples' Class and served as president of the Golden K organization. He was an active member of the Scotia Village Activities Committee, serving as treasurer for many years.

Visitation will follow the memorial service in the Morris Morgan Room, Scotia Village.
