Barbara Watkins

Barbara Watkins, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, April 17, 2023 at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care in West End.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Forks of Little River Baptist Church in Troy, officiated by Rev. Danny Vuncannon and Dr. Ed Lindsey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Born September 9, 1940, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Van and Maxine Gillis Harris. Sue was best known for her delicious pound cakes, which she enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Her love of baking was only surpassed by her love of animals, especially dogs. Sue's gentle and friendly nature made her a favorite among her many friends and family members. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, from baking her famous pound cakes to offering a listening ear and comforting words when needed.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Andy Watkins (Andrea) of Coats, NC; daughter, Susan W. Moore (J.J.) of Troy; sister, Sara Wallace of Troy; grandchildren, Kenley, John, Tabitha, and Amanda; and great-grandchildren, Kenna, Frasier, Loretta, and Rosalind. Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Watkins, I; sister, Carol Whitaker; and grandchildren, Drew Watkins and Zane Moore.

Memorials may be made to the Montgomery County Humane Society, 442 Landfill Rd., Mt. Gilead, NC 27306.
