Barbara Jacobs Chavis passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the age of 87 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Tracy Gross. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wagram. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born on June 11, 1936, in Alamance County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Gurney Yarborough and Lydia Harris Yarborough.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 20 plus years, Ashley Chavis of Laurinburg; son, Kenny Jacobs (Janet) of Laurinburg; daughters, Patricia J. Priest of the home, Donna Jacobs Stephens of Raymond, OH, and Carolyn Jacobs Jones of Raeford, NC; stepson, Anthony Chavis (Cathy) of Laurinburg; stepdaughters, Lois Thompson (Ron) of Charlotte, NC and Teresa Smith (Lyle) of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Ken Jacobs (Mary), Tonya Mendoza, Carrie Mendoza, Amanda Mendoza, James Locklear, Amy Locklear, and Lisa Blue; step-grandchildren, Vance Chavis and Chris Chavis; great-grandchildren, Summer Jacobs, Kensey Jacobs, Shian Locklear, Kameran Mendoza, Jasimine Mendoza, Chea Knowles, Raven Knowles, Britney Bibey, Anna Benedetti Christian Bullard, Jessica Bullard, Brandon Bullard, Tyler S. Locklear, Debra Locklear, Albrun T. Locklear, Hanna Hall, and Heather Locklear,. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Jacobs, Jr.; her grandson, Kevin Jacobs; great-grandchild, Angel Mendoza, and her siblings, Alton Yarborough, Gurney A. Yarborough, Jr., Don Yarborough, Kathleen Ellis, and Ruby Cummings,
Barbara's life was a testament to her roles as a loving christian and dedicated homemaker. Her hands, always busy, were a symbol of her loving nature, whether they were preparing family meal or folding clothes. Fishing was one of her greatest past times.
Those who knew Barbara would describe her as a faith-filled individual whose kindness and loving heart touched many lives. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength to her family and friends.
Barbara's life was a journey marked by selfless love and an enduring faith that guided her every step. Her commitment to her family was unparalleled, and her ability to make each person feel special and loved was a gift. Barbara's family will hold her memory close, honoring her life and the profound impact she made on each of them. As they navigate this time of sorrow, they will find strength in the love and guidance Barbara provided throughout her remarkable life.
