Audrey Elizabeth (Allen) Floyd

December 18, 1945 — June 4, 2024

Laurinburg

Audrey Elizabeth Allen Floyd, 78, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2024, after a determined, nineteen-month journey with pancreatic cancer. A service in celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Laurinburg, NC, with Rev. Jeanne Baucom officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will be private at Hillside Memorial Park following the service.

Born December 18, 1945, in Florence, SC, she was a daughter of the late Norman Allen and Mildred Stracener Allen. She shared 60 wonderful years with her devoted husband, Richard “Kent” Floyd, of Laurinburg, with whom she created a loving home and family together. Their family grew to include two sons, Wendell “Scotty” Floyd, also of Laurinburg, and Andrew Floyd, of Nashville, TN.

Audrey treated her many nieces and nephews as her own, and the birth of their children became a source of immense pride and happiness for her, through which she joyfully took on the role of grandmother. Her joy was then multiplied when Sawyer West became a bonus grandson, as the result of the union of her son Andrew to Heather West Floyd. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Allen Poole, of Summerville, SC, with whom she shared a love of music, reading, and church participation.

Audrey confronted her diagnosis with courage, dignity, and the strength of her faith. That strength was nourished at First Baptist Laurinburg, where she had been a pillar of the church community since 1986, lifting spirits of many through her participation in the sanctuary and handbell choirs.

Her love for her family was paramount. She cherished every moment spent with and in support of them, from attending baseball and soccer games and being a PTA classroom parent, to volunteering at youth camps and managing the SHS marching band uniform closet.

Beyond her family and personal interests, Audrey's selflessness was evident in her volunteer work with the Literacy Council. As an avid reader herself, she believed deeply in the power of literacy and education, and she worked tirelessly to ensure that others had the opportunity to develop these essential skills.

Those who knew Audrey will remember her as a faith-filled woman, whose presence was a source of comfort and inspiration. She approached life with a creative flair, whether she was crafting, singing, or supporting her family in their endeavors. She leaves her family and friends with not only sweet memories, but tangible tokens of her love and talent, through her many personalized, homemade gifts. Her selfless nature was a constant reminder of the joy found in serving others, and her legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She will be remembered, by all who had the good fortune to know her, for her thoughtfulness, concern, and generosity of spirit.

Audrey and her family would like to especially thank Scotland Regional Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during the final month of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741, or the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir and Handbell Choir, P.O. Box 883, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
