Arline Candis McLamb Davis of Scotia Village, Laurinburg, died Monday, July 14, 2014. She was born in Lumberton, NC, on February 28, 1926 to Daniel Martin McLamb and Fannie Elizabeth Humphrey McLamb. After living in the Roseboro area, at 15 her family moved to Lumberton. Upon high school graduation, she married John Clarence Davis in 1945 and they lived in the Buie Township of Red Springs until moving to Laurinburg in 2000. They enjoyed traveling to many various countries during their 67 years of marriage. Her sweet, gentle Christian spirit and her kind and loving nature will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and neighbor who truly loved her family.
Survivors include her daughters -- Betty (Larry) McCarty of Fort Mill, SC; Delores (Herb) Smith and Jo Ann (James) McQueen of Laurinburg; son -- Steve Davis of Red Springs. Grandchildren include Dawne Reddeck (Keith), Ft. Mill, SC; James McQueen (Donna), Emily Lighthall (Jason), Stan Smith (Leslie), all from Laurinburg; Aimee Rice (Bryant) of Zebulon; and Stephanie Davis (Jason) also of Laurinburg. Great-grandchildren include Preston and Griffin Reddeck; Katie and Jay Lighthall; Creighton and Finley Smith, Dawson McQueen; JD, Luke & Cody Rice, and Kendall Davis. Step-grandchildren are Kim McCarty of Washington, DC and Chris McCarty of Fort Mill, SC; Step-great-grandchildren, Madison and Kendall McCarty. Sisters-in-law include Ann Hasty, Molly Smith, and Mildred Wilson of Laurinburg; brothers-in-law are Calvin Davis of Red Springs and Bob Davis of Laurinburg in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis, brother, James McLamb, of Fayetteville and parents, Martin & Fannie McLamb of Dunn, N.C.
The family will receive friends at her apartment #228 within Scotia Village in Laurinburg on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 – 4:00. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, 305 East Church Street, Laurinburg. Funeral will be Wednesday, July 16 at 1:00 p.m. First United Methodist Church, 101 West Church Street, Laurinburg. Burial will be in Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs at 4:00 p.m.
The family expresses their thanks and gratitude to the caregivers, the staff at Scotia Village Retirement Community, the medical staff at Scotland Memorial and Moore Regional Hospital, and Hospice of Scotland County for the excellent care given to their mother.
