Anthony Chavis

Anthony Chavis, 69, of Laurinburg, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026 at his residence.

A visitation will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium Chapel. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in McColl, officiated by Rev. Sampson Grooms. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Born on April 20, 1957, in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Annie Locklear and Ashley Chavis. Anthony graduated from UNC Pembroke with a Bachelor of Science in Business. In his work life he was a Chief Supervisor for Carmichael Farms and was known for his hard work ethic. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer, turkey, and duck hunting, along with his love of cars, especially his Camaros. But the highlight of his life was his love for Jesus and his family.

Anthony is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cathy Sanders Chavis; his sons, Christopher Chavis (Jillian) of Laurinburg and Vance Chavis (Stephanie) of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Aubree, Avery, AC, Stevie, and Sterling; sisters, Teresa Smith (Lyle) of Sarasota, FL and Lois Thompson (Ron) of Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to Piney Plain Freewill Baptist Church, 2220 Adamsville Rd. McColl, SC 29570.
