Mrs. Anita James Adams Rhodes, 51, of 630 Union Street South died Monday, August 9, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church in Laurinburg officiated by the Rev. Nick Mager.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Rhodes; two sisters, Emily Aberle and her husband, Thomas, of Raleigh and Pat Furlong and her husband, Bill, of Knoxville, TN; three nephews, Adam Aberle, Partick Aberle, and Greg Furlong; a niece, Lara Furlong; five aunts, Mary Wall Sutherland, Nita Bryant James, Dibber Adams, and Martha Adams of Laurinburg, and Alice Mende of Charlotte; an uncle, Hinton James, Jr. of Winter Haven, FL.
Born October 23, 1947 in Laurinburg, she was a daughter of the late William M. "Bill" Adams and Patsy James Adams. She was a graduate of Peace College and St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
Anita was employed as a realtor and broker with Craven Realty in Concord where she was Realtor of the Year in 1990. She also served the Cabarrus County Association of Realtors in various positions, including President.
She also served past director for the Festival for Charlotte Motor Speedway, Trustee for the 600 Childrensa
