Alvin Charlie Bowles, 85, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Tim Hawks. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Born on April 18, 1938, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Charlie Alvin and Stella Gardner Bowles. He was the owner/operator of Bowles Texaco.
Alvin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He found joy in working in his garden and watching it grow. He was always the first one to cook and deliver food to people in their time of need. Known for his sense of humor, Alvin was a jokester who enjoyed talking to people and making them laugh. As a dreamer, Alvin always had a big plan in mind and was a good man.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Hurley Jenkins, of the home; his son, Roger Bowles (Teresa) of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Rayvon Bowles and Harvey Bowles, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Clara Hudson of Albemarle, and Hazeline McDonald of Candor; grandchildren, Melanie Dunn of Mt. Gilead, Joshua Bowles of Troy, and Jeremy Bowles of Mt. Gilead; great-grandchildren, Abigail Dunn, Tucker Dunn, Ariel Bowles, and Mastin Bowles; his step-children, Michael Jenkins of Rockingham, Sheila Thompson, and Jerry Jenkins, both of Ellerbe; five step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Webb Bowles, who passed away in 2002, and sister, Annie Lou McLendon.
