Alton Vernon McDaniel, 88, passed away peacefully January 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born August 27, 1928 in Horry County, SC, he was the son of the late Alton & Georgia Lewis McDaniel.
A Celebration of life will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Wagram Church of God.
He served in the United States Army before moving to Laurinburg in the early 1950’s. It was here where he met his wife, Martha Peele McDaniel of 62 years. Vernon was a retiree of Libbey-Owens Ford Company. His passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Benny McDaniel; sisters, Edna Haselden, Sue Phillips, Margie Sawyer, & Clara Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Martha McDaniel of the home; sons, Ray McDaniel of Laurinburg, Dale McDaniel (Vicky) of Laurinburg and Tommy McDaniel (Luann) of Wagram; three grandchildren, Dr. Garrett McDaniel (Kristy) of Laurinburg, Ashley McDaniel (Walker) of Tennessee and Jonathan McDaniel of Greenville; great-granddaughter Brianna, and great-granddaughter to be, Avery. He is also survived by two sisters, Eunice Herrington (Dale) of Aynor, SC, and Lomeria Hickman of Mullins, SC.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg, NC.
