Mr. Allen Hammonds Jr., 76, of McColl, SC died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church in Gibson, NC officiated by the Rev. Ellis Cooper. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maybelle Bass Hammonds; a son Bobby Hammonds and wife Regina of Gibson; a daughter Rebecca Cuevas of Copperas Cove, TX; one brother Eddie Hammonds of Gibson; a sister Mildred H. Mace of Newtonville, SC; eight grandchildren, LaTosha Bethea, Michael Joe Hammonds, Crystal Hammonds, Ezequiel Junior Cuevas, Ezequiel Samuel Cuevas, Bobby Hammonds, Jr, Amanda Adams, and Rita Anne Hammonds; and Five great grandchildren.
Born March 16, 1933 in the Brightsville Community of Marlboro County, SC, he was the son of the late George Allen and Annie Mae Chavis Hammonds. Mr. Hammonds was self employed as a farmer and a logger.
Allen was a member of the Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was proud of his Lumbee Indian Heritage, and was a loving family man.
He was preceded in death by a son Rocky Joe Hammonds.
Visitation will be held from 6 till 8 pm Monday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
