Alice Faye (Varner) Welch

Alice Faye Varner Welch, 79, of Troy passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Stanly Atrium Health.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Lomax Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Frankie Owens. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, face masks are recommended and please practice social distancing.

Born September 25, 1941 in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late James Wilton and Minnie Todd Varner. Alice worked as an assembler at a chair factory for many years. She was a babysitter to many children in Montgomery County. Alice enjoyed cleaning house, collecting lighthouses, and especially spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Irene Cassidy (Buddy) of Mt. Gilead, Linda Marcus (Mike), and Rhonda Britt (Garry) both of Troy; sons, David Welch of the home, BoBo Welch (Crystal) of Troy, and Weasel Welch (Angie) of Biscoe; her sisters, Hazel Sneed of Linwood, NC, Jean Duboise of Troy, and Lois Varner of Candor; brother, Jr. Varner of Candor; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, David Michael Welch, her daughter, Wanda Fay Norman, and her brother, Roy Varner.
