Alice Lancaster McKenzie, 87, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Caledonia United Methodist Church. A private burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Mark McKenzie (Sharon Burke) of Laurinburg; her daughters, Winnie Robinson (Donnie) of Laurinburg and Kitty Johnson (Joe Quick) of Laurinburg; her grandchildren, Kenwyn Johnson, Matt Jenkins, Ben Jenkins (Susan), Kristi Allen (Brad), Kelly Cheek, Luke McKenzie (Jennifer), Chloe Cook (Jason), Alex McKenzie, Carl McKenzie, Ivy McKenzie, and Kiley McKenzie; her great-grandchildren, River Cheek, Slade Cheek, Rainn Cheek, KenzieMac Allen, Hutton Allen, Sam Jenkins, AvaGrace Jenkins, and Bently McKenzie.
Born September 12, 1924 in Johnston County, NC she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Winnie Christine Johnston Lancaster and widow of the late Harold McKenzie.
Alice graduated from the Rex Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 and later worked at Scotland memorial Hospital, for Dr. Mark Huckeriede, and later at the St. Andrews Presbyterian College Rehabilitation facility. However, it was after her retirement that she found the love of her life – she was one of the first two Hospice of Scotland County nurses. She loved Hospice!
