Alan Ronald Quadlin died peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2021.
Alan was born July 28,1928 to Mabel Curry in Terre Haute, Indiana.
He joined the US Air Force in 1947, and during his 20-year career served in many places around the world, including The Philippines, Panama, Johnston Island, Germany, several bases in the US, and England. While stationed in England he met and married the love of his life, Margaret. Alan and Margaret instilled their love of travel in their two daughters, who they took on family camping holidays through Europe and across the US. The Quadlins settled in Laurinburg in 1976, and Alan said their home here was the first place he had ever felt truly at home. Alan worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford, where he made many friends, and from which he retired in 1993. Alan and Margaret continued their travels in retirement, venturing across the US and Canada, and visiting friends in England. Alan was able to reconnect via the internet with service members he had served with on Johnston Island, and with their wives they met for lively annual reunions for many years.
In recent years the pace of life slowed, but Alan was a lifelong avid reader, and he enjoyed keeping up with current events and learning about past events and the evolution of technology.
Alan’s beloved Margaret died in November 2020. He is survived by his daughters, Gillian Hough, her husband David, and Heather Quadlin, her husband Stephen Radford, and granddaughter Elizabeth Webb.
A memorial service will be schedule at a time when it is safe for friends to gather.
